What Is Ducting In HVAC

What Is Ducting In HVAC

Introduction

Ducts are an enclosed entity which are used to transfer conditioned air (either hot or cold) from air cooling medium ( which can be AHU, VAV, FCU. etc) to the occupied spaces. Ducts are used when air needs to be transfered at long distances.

Types of ducts

Ducts are classified on 2 basis
1.on the basis of shape.
2. On the basis of material.
Both classifications have their own advantages.

1. On the basis of shape

There are 3 types of duct on shape basis.

1.Rectanglular duct

  • This are used where we have space constraint i.e less space available between the ceiling and false ceiling. The width and height can be adjusted according to the aspect ratio.
  • Plus they are used inside the false ceiling so the aesthetic view of the space or building is not altered.
  • As the size of the duct increases there is a need to install stiffner to make it sturdy.
  • There can be a leakage problem in this types. So to avoid it sealents are used.
  • Noise created in this ducts are to a greater extent.
They can further be differentiated as welded and interlocked using various locking mechanisms.
This has the least manufacturing cost.

2.Round duct

  • The space required to install this ducts are comparatively more.
  • They are more tough ,sturdy and easy to handle.
  • They are generally used in open spaces like a workshop, auditorium, etc
  • Noise created in this ducts are 20 to 30% less than rectangular ducts due to their curved crossection.
  • They are of 2 types welded round ducts and spiral ducts.
  • The manufacturing cost is bit higher.

3. Flat Oval duct

Oval ducts can be used as replacement of round ducts due to their flatness along the width side.
They have advantages same as that of round ducts.
The manufacturing cost is higher than that of round ducts.

On the basis of material

GI Ducts.

  • GI (Galvanized Iron) ducts are generally used ducts in supply, return, fresh air, and general exhaust ductwork.
  • Thickness used ranges from 18 to 24 gauge

Aluminium ducts

  • This are used in hospital MRI room. Reason being MRI rooms need non ferous duct work
  • This are also used on client demand in moist areas like swimming pool, locker room, both sides of humidifier.
  • High manufacturing cost and are light in weight.

Stainless steel ducts.

  • This are used in moist areas like swimming pool, locker room and are bit cheaper than aluminium ducts.

Black Iron ducts.

  • This ducts are welded types and used in exhaust areas like commercial kitchen, high capacity exhaust, grease trap areas. Are available in rectangular and round shapes as well.

Mill phosphatized.

  • Also called as Paint grip ducts. Used in open areas where the aesthetic view is to be maintained. This have a coating on the outer surface of the ducts which allows us to color the ducts so as to maintain the look of the area.
  • This ducts can only be internally lined...are mostly used in USA.....rich guys right ...using a different type of duct just to make places look good.

Flexible ducts.

  • This are used in small areas to connect the main ductline with the diffusers. They are of 2 types insulated flexible ducts and metallic flexible ducts.

Fabric duct.

Fabric duct are used in stadiums, food industries majorly. It becomes easy to provide ventilation through fabric considering the hygiene level in food production sector. It can be easily removed and washed.

  1. Wow, cool post. I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real hard work to make a great article… but I put things off too much and never seem to get started. Thanks though. Foundation Repair Company Gainesville

  2. Thanks for your post. I’ve been thinking about writing a very comparable post over the last couple of weeks, I’ll probably keep it short and sweet and link to this instead if thats cool. Thanks. Foundation Repair Company Longview

Working of AHU (Air Handling Unit)

Working of AHU (Air Handling Unit) Introduction Air conditioning is a process used to maintain the temperature, humidity, and human comfort for the occupants in the room, it works on air refrigeration cycle. Air Handling Unit (AHU) is the equipment which is used to achieve the above parameters and is used when a large space is to be maintained at an isolated comfort zone from the outer atmospheric temperature. The cooler air from the AHU is then transferred to the desired location with the help of ducts.   Parts of AHU AHU mainly has 3 section. 1.        Filter section 2.        Coil section 3.        Blower section Components of AHU ·          Damper ·          Pre filter ·          Bag filter ·          Cooling coil ·          Heating coil ·          Blower fan ·          Damper all the above-mentioned components are placed in order.   Working of AHU The fresh air from outside and 20% return air from the room get mix in the mixing chamber. What is Building Management System

What is Building Management System Introduction. Building Management System or BMS is normally used in a high rise building that has number of MEP equipment’s like chillers, AHUs, VAV, Lightings, Electrical panel, pumps, Firefighting equipment’s, etc. It becomes very difficult to operate, maintain and commission all of them physically and would require a huge man power resource.   Which increases the cost burden on the owner. The HVAC components are responsible for maintaining the human comfort of the building, the chillers should maintain the temperature of the supplying water at a certain degree Celsius so as to maintain the human comfort at the desired level. All the above mentioned equipment's should be well coordinated to achieve maximum efficiency and functionality.   Without a well coordinated system. The efficiency would be at stake. The technicians and the field working team wont know which equipment has stopped working and need a replacement or repair in order to fu
